The public was saddened by the withdrawal of Liza Soberano from portraying the iconic superheroine role of Darna. Darna has been popularly known to many Filipino households because of its amazing characteristics as a superheroine that also resembles our traits as Filipinos. There had also been a number of fantastic artists who portrayed the role including Rosa del Rosario, Liza Moreno, Eva Montes, Gina Pareño, Vilma Santos, Lorna Tolentino, Rio Locsin, Sharon Cuneta, Nanette Medved, Anjanette Abayari, Regine Velasquez, Angel Locsin, and Marian Rivera.
Recently, Lorna Tolentino had spoken up about her bet to portray the role and she didn’t hesitate to be vocal about her in favor of Nadine Lustre. The veteran actress had already watched the viral video of Nadine in which she reenacted the famous scene of Darna asking the magical stone to Ding as she shouts “Darna!” afterward.
Lorna Tolentino portrayed the iconic character in the year 1977 where she also admitted that she was the first Darna to ever wore a one-piece swimsuit that time. She also advised those people who wanted to get the role as it is now open to the public that they should also post their “Darna” audition videos on different social media platforms for the public to see their talents and potential as well.
Victoria Lorna Perez Aluquin-Fernandez, popularly known as Lorna Tolentino is a 57-year-old Filipina actress, host, executive producer and widow of actor Rudy Fernandez hails from Concepcion, Tarlac. She is a stepmother to actor Mark Anthony Fernandez, first cousin to actress Amy Perez, Zsa Zsa Padilla and a niece of actor Jerry Pons. She was married to actor Rudy Fernandez from 1983 until he passed away in 2008. They were blessed with two children namely; Ralph and Renz.
She started her career in the show business industry as a child actress. Portraying the role of young Susan Roces in Divina Gracia, she also has a total of at least 60 movies. She had actually won eight film awards and garnered 20 nominations most of them are for Best Actress in FAMAS. She is also a part of ”FPJ’s: Ang Probinsiyano”.
